"Some flavors don't need teaching. They just feel like home."
Lucy Thompson grew up in Los Angeles, but her kitchen always tasted like somewhere else.
The sharp brightness of fresh lime. The slow heat of dried chiles. The way a pinch of salt pulled it all together.
These weren't recipes — they were memories. And one day, she decided to put them in a jar.
BOOM! Spice Started The Same
way all the best things do—around the table. In Lucy’s family, food has always been about more than what’s on the plate. It’s the sound of laughter, music in the background, and recipes passed down through memory, instinct, and time.
At the center of it all is Lucy’s mother, Martha, whose cooking brought people together in a way that felt effortless and real.
That influence shaped how Lucy approaches flavor today—grounded, intuitive, and made to be shared. Paired with Bret’s background in classic culinary training, built on technique and precision, they found a balance between tradition and craft.
That shared vision came to life in 2014 with the opening of Pez Cantina in Los Angeles. What started with a simple goal—to serve the best chips in the city—turned into something more, built on getting every detail right and creating flavor people keep coming back for.
